Global Solidarity Network Seattle (GSNS) is a volunteer-run mutual aid network. We're a registered 501(c)(4) nonprofit that helps neighbors support each other through community-led fundraising, free stores, and resource sharing. We have no paid staff everything we do is powered by volunteers.
-
We're not a referral agency, but we may be able to help connect you with mutual aid networks or community resources. Email info@gsnseattle.org and we'll do our best to point you in the right direction.
-
501(c)(4) organizations are "social welfare" nonprofits. Unlike 501(c)(3) charities, we can engage in advocacy and organizing work without restrictions. The tradeoff is that donations to us are not tax-deductible. We chose this structure because it allows us to do justice-oriented work without constraints.
-
No. GSNS is a 501(c)(4) social welfare organization, not a 501(c)(3) charity. Donations to GSNS are not tax-deductible. We prioritize community organizing and advocacy work over tax benefits.
-
You can donate through our Givebutter page. These funds support GSNS operations, including fiscal sponsorship for community fundraisers, free store coordination, and mutual aid efforts.
-
Each community fundraiser we support has its own donation page. You can find active fundraisers under "Current Projects" on our website. Donations go directly to that specific fundraiser, not to GSNS general operations.
-
We support community-led efforts that align with our values of solidarity, dignity, and mutual aid. Examples include emergency funds for individuals or families, community organizing projects, and direct support for marginalized communities.
We typically don't support commercial ventures or projects that conflict with our commitment to justice and equity.
-
Email info@gsnseattle.org and let us know what you're interested in helping with. We'll connect you with current needs and opportunities. There's no application process or formal commitment required.
-
Absolutely. We believe disabled people belong in every part of mutual aid, including organizing and decision-making. Not all contribution looks the same, and participation isn't measured by physical capacity or speed. Let us know what works for you, and we'll find ways for you to contribute meaningfully.
-
A free store is a space where people can take what they need and give what they can, with no money exchanged. Everything is free. No questions asked, no proof of need required.
We currently support The Village - Seattle Free Store, which is in its beta phase and managed by community organizers. GSNS provides coordination support and helps connect volunteers and resources. For current location and hours, check the Free Store page. -
